UTD is highly available, robust and simple to use wheel detection systems based on active multi-vector inductive sensing technology. UTD is used in a wide variety of applications, ranging from its basic function of wheel detection to functions such as traffic direction, train speed, wheel centre pulse generation, axle counting, etc.
UTD wheel sensors and a corresponding evaluation/interface unit, is applied in variety of applications both as CENELEC SIL 4 axle counting systems as well as for systems with other CENELEC safety classifications i.e. SIL 0 – SIL 3.

We have a history of successful joint innovation projects with both industry and prominent universities. Through our current “Innovate UK” funded consortium (OptRail), we are developing a multi-sensor condition monitoring system for predictive maintenance of rail infrastructure using optical fibre sensors in order to decrease maintenance costs and increase railway network safety and availability.
